ABOUT US

Sun-spring Charity School (SCS), located in Ng’ombe Township, off Zambezi Road at plot 106/16 in Lusaka Zambia, is a charity school dedicated to serving less-privileged children with basic educationas a right and an avenue to bettering the world for all. The school was founded in 2011 by social

entrepreneur and Education for All activist Frank Masanta Jr. 

The school is a rented one structured building with one small office, a bathroom and three rooms;

one main room is bigger than the rest and is forced to cater 5 classes. With support from our friends

and our sister school, the American International School of Rotterdam (AISR), we managed to put a

tiled floor, plaster, windows and a bore hole in effort to improve quality education and condusive

learning environment for kids.

The school was founded under Youth for Africa Renaissance & Faculty Organisation; a non profit

organization working with partners to fight poverty by investing in cultural and human development

through education and entrepreneurship programs.

The School and Its Students

The school serves about 100 students, from grade one to seven with target of 15 students per class. The school sarted with one class (grade one) with about 15 children in 2011, since then, the school has grown and currently has about 100 student and the

following staff:

 6 classroom teachers

 1 cleaner

 The School Manager/Head Teacher

 The Director

SCHOOL GOVERNONSHIP

Sun-spring Charity School is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of 3 schoo parents, 3 community members and three chosen patrons. The board meets once a month onto discuss events/activities that support the development and welfare of the school, the school Board of Directorsimprovement plans and to find ways to involve the school community in the education of their children.They also provide feedback to the school director. The specific goals of our School Board of Directors are as follows:

1. To steer the school towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies, as well as making sure the nonprofit has adequate resources to sustain andadvance its mission.

2. Promote effective communication among the stakeholder groups and act as referees/schoolrecommenders. 

4. Provide opportunities for families to be active participants in the education of their children.

5. Provide input on issues that may affect the structure and/or function of Sun-spring Charity School.

6. To hire and set the compensation of a talented school manager to run the day-to day management of the organization.

7. To provide foresight, oversight, and insight.

HOW WE WORK:

The school works with partnars and voluteer teachers who get monthly stipends. Since inception, the school has worked with more than 100 volunteer teachers under Teachers for All (TFA) Initiative and International School of Lusaka’s Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) program. The school has benefited more than 1000 children whom the school links some of children to government schools whenever there

are opportunities undergovernment’s Free Basic Education policy.

Founder and Director for Sun-spring Charity School, is a social entrepreneur/education activist who have been working to inspire people from all walks of life and organisations such as UNICEF to support children’s education initiatives under his campaign, ACT campaign for children’s education right.
